Quema de Judas

A very typical celebration in Mexico during lent is the Quema de Judas or Judas Burning wich consist in burning a paper made figure representing the one that sold Jesus for money.  "According to some, the activity allows worshipers to let out resentment, anger, or other negative feelings, which are symbolically destroyed with the burning of the figure of Judas. Participants strive to make the most grotesque version of the Biblical man, which is then displayed in a public plaza. Sometimes, the effigy is made to resemble an individual — often a politician — disliked by the community" – Venezuela World.

On March 22, 2008 at colonia Infonavit, in Puerto Vallarta,  worshipers burnt the Judas with the name of Hugo Sanchez (couch of Mexico’s soccer team), this because his failure on achieving the goals he promised. The burning ended with the explosion of the figure. Poor Hugo.

Una celebración típica de México durante Semana Santa es la quema de Judas que consiste en incendiar una figura de papel que representa al traidor de Jesús al venderlo por dinero. "De acuerdo con algunos, esta actividad permite que los feligreses liberen su resentimiento, ira y otros sentimientos negativos, que son simbólicamente destruidos con la figura ardiente de Judas. Los participantes se esfuerzan por realizar la versión más grotesca de Judas, la cual se muestra en la plaza pública. Algunas veces, la efigie se hace para memorar a algún individuo -a menudo un político- que detesta la comunidad. – Venezuela World.

En marzo 22 del 2008 en la colonia infonavit de Puerto Vallarta, los feligreses quemaron a Judas con el nombre de Hugo Sánchez (DT de la selección Mexicana), esto por no alcanzar los objetivos que prometió. La quema terminó con la explosión de la figura. Pobre Hugo.
